Hello guys, how are you all? Hope you all are doing great. In this article we will tell you about the first graduate of upper Assam.
Jagannath Barooah was born on 29 October 1851 in Jorhat. His father Hemdhar Barooah was also a very respectful person of Jorhat.
After completing his degree, he appeared for Civil services but later he changed his mind and started tea cultivation. And in a very short period of time , he became owner of several tea gardens like Lekujan, Bosabari etc.
Later, in the year 1902 the British honoured him with the title "Raibahadur" for his excellent work for the tea industry .
In 1896 , Jagannath Barooah moved to a new home called "Borpatro Kutir" near Barua Chariali , Jorhat. Later that home turned into a college and which has become one of the best colleges of Assam in recent days. Yes that is Jagannath Barooah College ( J B College).
Jagannath Barooah died on 21st of April 1907.

Yes, he was the one, Jagannath Barooah was the first graduate from upper Assam.
In the year 1872 Jagannath Barooah completed Batchelor of Arts (BA) degree from Presidency College of Kolkata and became the first graduate of upper Assam.
Therefore he was also known as BA Jagannath Barooah.
